Waste generated by maintenance of outdoor spaces such as lawns and gardens. Yard waste may consist of grass clippings, flower cuttings and leaves. This type of waste is biodegradable, meaning it will return to an original state through natural processes over an extended period of time. When yard waste is separated from other types of waste for collection purposes, it can be taken directly to a recycling center where it can be transformed into compost. Landfills are not permitted to accept yard waste in most cases
